The book "Nocturnes" by John Connolly is an assortment of supernatural short stories. Each one having it's own theme and lesson, the stories often take place where the main character(s) undergo a dangerous and complex situation. In the text, it depends on the author how we feel about the story and the main character. In "The Furnace Room" the main character has done an awful crime, however we do not figure this out until the end, and before we pity the main character. In "The Cancer Cowboy Rides" we detest one of the main characters because we don't understand his motives. In "The Underbury Witches" we root for the antagonists even until the very end. Complicated and complex issues happening in the text are, "The Underbury Witches" tackles early issues of, misandry, misogyny, domestic violence and feminism. "The Ritual of The Bones" lightly exaggerates the difference in social and economical classes and how it affects the way the country is 'run'. In "The Inkpot Monkey" an author cheats his way into promoting a new novel, unfortunately they don't stick around long enough to see the prospects of their literary masterpiece.
